AB+ Business Intelligence
AB+ needed to consolidate fragmented business reporting across twelve departments into a single intelligent BI platform — one that could serve analysts, executives, and field managers simultaneously without a training programme.
The challenge
Data lived in five siloed systems. Each persona needed different views, different levels of detail, and different security scopes. A report that was safe for a regional manager to see contained salary data that had to be invisible to their peers. Existing dashboards required SQL knowledge to query. The team was spending 40% of analyst time building one-off reports.
The solution
We designed a role/persona security model embedded at the data layer — not as a UI filter. Each user's session initialises with a permission context that shapes every query, every drill-down, and every export. The interface adapts its information density and available actions to the user's role without any visible branching logic. Analysts get raw tables; executives get story-first summaries with one-click drill-through.
Our process
-
01 Discovery & Persona Mapping
Shadowed 14 users across five roles. Mapped 120+ distinct data needs against 6 existing reports. Identified 80% redundancy.
-
02 Data Architecture Review
Audited Oracle and SQL Server schemas. Designed a unified semantic layer in Snowflake that became the single source of truth.
-
03 Permission Modelling
Built a row-level security model covering 9 data sensitivity tiers. Tested with legal and compliance teams across three review cycles.
-
04 Prototype & Test
6 rounds of usability testing with Figma prototypes. Reduced task completion time from 8 min to 90 seconds for the primary reporting workflow.
-
05 Design System & Handoff
Delivered 240 component library items in Angular-ready format with Storybook documentation and annotated API contracts.
Outcomes
- 68%Reduction in ad-hoc report requests
- 90sAverage time to key insight (down from 8 min)
- 12Departments consolidated into one platform
- 0Security incidents post-launch
